Employers in Birmingham are set to add their voice to those lobbying government to solve the employers' liability (EL) crisis.

The Birmingham Chamber of Commerce is finalising a policy statement that will call for the creation of a national EL pool like the one proposed by Biba.

The statement will also call for greater transparency on the effect economic conditions have on premium rates, and possibly an investigation into profit to premium ratios.

Birmingham Chamber policy executive Annette Fitzgerald said: "Insurance companies are not wholly to blame for the present crisis and better communication is required between client businesses and insurers."

David Slade, owner of local broker Perkins Slade, has been advising the organisation on EL issues.

It is understood that other chambers of commerce are considering joining the lobby.
