Impact Underwriting and Charrington 962 will become Canopius Underwriting

Canopius Managing Agents, the specialist insurance underwriting business, has announced the launch of its new service company, Canopius Underwriting Limited.

Canopius, through its merger with Creechurch Underwriting Limited in 2006, acquired two service companies, Impact Underwriting and Charrington 962 . The Lloyd's insurer said the companies are acknowledged for both their diverse range of products and for their level of underwriting experience within the accident and health, general liability and professional indemnity sectors.

In support of future development through the service company distribution channel, Canopius has, with immediate effect, merged the two companies into a single entity - Canopius Underwriting Limited.

The three divisional underwriters, Stephen Thompson (Accident and Health), Simon Stokoe (General Liability) and David Hunwick (Professional Indemnity) will continue to lead their teams, using the Canopius brand and the strength of Syndicate 4444 to further support new business development opportunities.

In addition, in order to enhance customer service, Canopius has also invested in a new underwriting platform which provides the business with the ability to quickly develop additional products – the first of which are expected to be launched in 2009 - that use a web distribution channel.

Clive Watson, chief executive of Canopius said: “We are delighted to bring these two companies together under the Canopius brand. Canopius Underwriting Limited will continue to offer the diverse level of products for which both Impact and Charrington are known, while looking to build on existing relationships and further develop the business.

"The close integration of the businesses within Canopius and the provision of self-service, web-enabled products will be key to making the most of new opportunities.”
