Capita Group was named Company of the Year 2003 in the Royal Bank of Scotland and Sunday Times Business Awards.

The professional supports service company, which includes Capita Insurance Services, has twice been runner up for the award.

Since its takeover of Eastgate in 2000, Capita claims it has handled 3.5 million helpline calls, processed 1 million personal lines claims, adjusted 500,000 claims and is responsible for the settlement of £1.5bn worth of claims.

Insurer Amulet Group, actuarial services provider Hazell Car and brokers Besso and Cooper Gay all featured in the Sunday Times/Price waterhouseCoopers top 100 profit growth firms this week.

Amulet (formally Accident Care) featured as the fifth most profitable company. It has seen profits rise117.3% a year from £17.9m in 1999 to £17m in 2002. Hazell Carr profits show a steady 62% increase a year from £8.6m in 1999 to £36.6m in 2002.

Besso's profits have risen 73% a year from £1m in 1998 to £5.3m in 2001. Cooper Gay's profits grew 40% a year from £1.9m in 1998 to £5.1m in 2001.
