Name: Russell Collier
Age: 28
Title: Manager,
Weather Direct

How did you get into the insurance industry?
Through a friend who knew of an opportunity at a local insurance firm in Bournemouth. It wasn't something that I had really considered, but once I learned the ins and outs of the job I found I had a flair for it and enjoyed it.

What did you want to be when you were younger?
I, like every other schoolboy, had dreams of becoming a professional footballer… but if you saw my footie skills you would understand why I am much better suited to insurance.

What was the best advice you were given?
If you want something, go for it!

What advice would you give someone starting out?
Stay focused on whatever it is that you want to achieve and you will achieve it.

What was your first ever job?
At Frizzell's in Bournemouth – or was it as the local paperboy?

Do you have an unfulfilled ambition?
I'd love to do a bungee jump. More realistically, I think my involvement in Weather Direct is, to a certain extent, fulfilling my ambition to be successful.

What was your worst moment?
Bombing out of Euro 2000 so early in the championships.

What was your best moment?
At the risk of sounding clichéd, the opportunity to develop Weather Direct; having a hand in all the decisions and watching it grow from an initial idea to a fully-fledged company has definitely been one of the best moments of my life, so far.

What was your education?
I attended Blandford Upper School in Blandford, Dorset where I achieved 10 GCSEs.

Who do you most admire?
People who started with very little and achieved great success and respect.
