It seems Royal and SunAlliance (R&SA) is seeking to extract much needed funds from the unlikeliest sources - a family-run care home has seen its policy prices hiked from £918 to £7,424.75.

County Down-based CMS nursing and domiciliary care providers - where 18 staff provide home help to the elderly - has been insured with R&SA for two years and has not made any claims.

Mike North of North Star Insurance Services said: "Are care providers paying for the fat cats and all their mistakes?"

A spokesman said R&SA could not comment on any individual case.
