CGU former head of broker relations, Tony Cornell has claimed the insurer will scrap its broker club, Club Elite, once the merger with Norwich Union is finalised.

CGU refused to deny the speculation, saying it was too early to say.

Cornell, now an independent consultant, writes: "[Club Elite's] champions have gone, and it has little relevance for both brokers and CGNU in the new order."

Cornell also claims that the new entity CGNU was unlikely to stay in medium to large commercial business, in order to free up capacity to grow its personal and small business accounts.
