$125 from March US storm and $70m fro Chile earthquake

New Jersey insurer Chubb announced today that it estimates losses from first quarter catastrophes to be approximately $290m pre-tax ($189m after-tax) net of reinsurance.

The loses include the March Northeast US storm, other US winter storms, the Chilean earthquake, the Australian storms, European windstorm Xynthia and other catastrophes.

Approximately $200m represents Chubb's estimate for losses from US catastrophes, of which $125m was from the March Northeast US storm.

Outside the US

Losses from catastrophes outside the US amounted to approximately $90m pre-tax, of which $70m was from the Chilean earthquake.
