Rating agency A.M. Best Co has assigned an initial financial strength rating of A (excellent) to Catlin Insurance Company Limited (CICL), a newly-capitalised Bermudan insurer.

The agency said the rating "reflects the company's excellent initial capitalisation, access to business with a proven track record through the Catlin syndicates, its highly regarded management team and excellent expected financial performance".

On the other hand, it cited as offsetting factors "the need for Catlin Westgen Group to extend underwriting controls from its London-based underwriting operations to CICL in Bermuda, the challenge to the group from greatly increased business volume and competition from a number of Bermudan start up companies".

CICL was established in Bermuda in December 2000, although it has not actively traded to date.

The company is a wholly-owned subsidiary of Catlin Westgen Group, the Bermudan holding company of Catlin Underwriting Agencies Limited and Catlin Westgen Limited.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
