Sanity prevailed this week after Safeway fought off a lawsuit brought by the owners of Muffin the dachshund. Gordon and Susan Musselwhite said their dog Muffin was partially paralysed jumping for Safeway leaflets posted through the letterbox of their home.

They had issued a claim of £2,826.65 against the supermarket in the small claims divison of Plymouth County Court.

But district judge Peter Corrigan became the champion of insurers this week by making the insightful judgment: "I do not find a suspended leaflet equates to negligence."

The Musselwhites' verdict was: "We advise dog owners to block up their letterboxes."

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
