Backchat wonders whether there is a touch of madness about people who bring personal injury claims after they have suffered minor falls.

There is, however, no denying it makes for interesting copy in the national press.

The latest ludicrous story features an employee, a pile of claims forms and insurance giant Norwich Union.

Underwriter Linda Riley sued her employer, Norwich Union, after she tripped over a pile of claims forms which had been left on the office floor. The fall was so distressing that an out-of-court settlement had to be reached and Riley was awarded a cool £5,000.

As jaws drop to the floor while reading this, Backchat would like to reiterate that this stuff cannot be made up.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
