What can be done to combat policyholders who throw common sense aside to make a claim for a so-called holiday from hell?

One insurer had been bombarded with phone calls from a retired gentleman who wanted to be compensated for a cruise ship trip which had not met his requirements. The policyholder complained he had felt sea sick - something he was not forewarned of before booking his two-week cruise. He also had not got along with his fellow travellers and was unaware that he would be stuck with them on the ship.

But the greatest injustice of all, the outraged gentleman complained, was the view.

The exasperated insurer explained: "He wanted compensation because all he could see from the boat was the sea!"
