Insurance portal insurE-com is set to capitalise on its deal to supply a new broker management system, as users defect from rival Computer Systems Corporation (CSC).

InsurE-com managing director Ralph Ehlers said CSC's Grapevine and agency manager WinTam software package user groups were increasingly unhappy with CSC and were keen to move to insurE-com.

"A number of Grapevine users have switched to us. If brokers are not happy with the service they are getting then they are prepared to move. We are being told our service is of a higher quality and performance than CSC."

A leading IT analyst said: "CSC has overstretched itself. It has to manage a horrendous amount of systems. It doesn't really surprise me that Grapevine user groups are turning away from it. There is a sense that CSC's products are coming to the end of their life."

Until the end of last year, CSC had an exclusive arrangement with Applied Systems of the US, owner and developer of WinTAM, to provide the product in the UK. InsurE-com took over the contract in January.

Association of Quotel Users chairman Ray Jackson recently claimed he had been contacted by over 40 brokers trying out the insurE-com system "because they are fed up with the poor service from CSC".

CSC marketing director Tony Barker played down talk of customer defections and said he knew of only one user who wished to transfer. He said the company was seeking to rationalise some products.
