QBE general manager Bob Grant has quit the group after a “disagreement on the future management of the business” with group chief executive Frank O'Halloran.

As a stop-gap, O'Halloran will take responsibility of European operations, while Grant's successor is found.

O'Halloran said: “Bob Grant has developed QBE European operations into a significant presence in the London market over the past nine years and it is regrettable that the disagreement on the future management of the business could not be resolved.

“Bob's departure does not impact on our over-riding strategy in Europe and our clear duty to shareholders, clients and employees.”

A spokeswoman for the insurer would not confirm the nature of the disagreement. She described Grant's departure as “just one of those natural ‘businesses evolve people have different perspectives' scenarios”.

O'Halloran will be supported in his role by deputy general manager Paul Glen and European operations finance director Richard MacGregor.
