The attempted robbery at the Millennium Dome in November 2000 seemed to be a daring heist straight out of a Bond film.

Following a tip-off, the police foiled the attempt to steel a collection of De Beers diamonds from the dome, including the £200m Millennium Star diamond which was the centrepiece of the display.

But if one former member of the dome staff gets his way, the Met's great triumph could turn out to be a costly endeavour.

The claimant apparently injured his knee when diving for cover during the attempted robbery. He is now claiming that the police should have warned the dome's staff so that they could have hit the ground in a more controlled manner.

All well and good in theory, but wouldn't knee pads over uniforms have tipped off the robbers that the game was up, wonders Backchat.
