New car crash

East London tops the list of UK’s uninsured driving hot spots, according to Churchill Insurance.

East London has the highest proportion of uninsured vehicles at 13.4%, but Birmingham has the most uninsured cars with 55,142 uninsured vehicles.

Across the UK, there are over 1 million uninsured motorists.

Churchill said it is setting up digital advertising hoardings in London, Manchester and Birmingham that will register passing vehicles and display how many uninsured cars have passed.

Half of the top ten UK areas for uninsured vehicles, as a percentage of all vehicles in the region, are located in London.

“The number of uninsured vehicles on the roads is alarming,” said Mark Chiappino, Churchill’s Honest Motoring Champion.

“Car insurance is a legal requirement but hundreds of thousands of motorists continue to flout the law. Drivers across the UK are paying higher premiums as a result of unscrupulous drivers that fail to insure their vehicles. We are calling for a greater recognition of the risks of uninsured motoring in the UK and far tougher penalties for those convicted of this offence.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
