End of the hedgehog jokes

Following the collapse of property services group Erinaceous, and the imminent rebranding of its insurance arm, EIS, Backchat lamented the loss of its favourite prickly animal – not to mention jokes relating to road kill (erinaceous means hedgehog-like).

The company had one last laugh, however, when EIS executive chairman Leslie Goodman revealed that the unsuccessful attempts to steer the company though a speedy sale had been dubbed Operation Sonic, after video game character Sonic the hedgehog.

Meanwhile, the name of the new insurance company, according group chief Tim Redburn, would aim to incorporate all the letters of its bankers HBOS, Lloyds TSB and HSBC.

Looks like that idea could be squashed as well.
