Claims made by part-time workers to employees could be set to rise following changes to Part Time Worker Regulations, which come into force on July 1.

The legislation will make part-time workers eligible to the same terms and conditions as full-timers.

Part-timers will be able to make claims to the Employment Tribunal if they believe they are treated less favourably than their full-time counterparts.

Eastgate Assistance lawyer Reggie Lloyd said: "There may be a lot of employers who are unaware of the legislation who might be breaching part-time workers' rights; an increase in claims could result because of this."
