Simon Parrish, head of SME underwriting at Allianz Insurance, explains why the insurer should win the Excellence in ETrading category at the 2022 Insurance Times Awards

Explain briefly about your entry in the Excellence in ETrading category.

Our SME Transformation programme has totally reshaped the experience our brokers and customers have when engaging with us.

We therefore entered this category to showcase our recent achievements in digital trading.

We knew from broker feedback that our broker partners wanted fewer referrals and they wanted to get a competitive rate immediately.

To deliver our best price first time, we remodelled our algorithms. We also reviewed our processes to remove certain types of referrals and we introduced our Artie X chatbot - this stands for Allianz Referral Tool and Intelligence Engine, External.

Not only did we successfully reduce referrals, we also invested in underwriter expertise and availability to ensure underwriters are on hand to engage with any complex queries.

What do you think makes your entry stand out or different from your competition?

We’ve significantly increased our proportion of straight through processing, as brokers desired - noting a 14% uptick in existing business conducted this way between June 2021 and June 2022.

What would winning this award mean to you and your firm?

We want brokers to see us as easy to do business with. That’s one of our ambitions. Winning this award would be a recognition that we’ve delivered on that.
