Former general insurance boss at LV= becomes non-executive director at Aviva

The former head of general insurance at LV= John O’Roarke has taken a new role with Aviva.

O’Roarke will become an independent non-executive director at Aviva Insurance Ltd and Aviva Life UK Boards. This is not the plc Board, but the relevant boards for Aviva’s UK GI and Life businesses.

Andy Briggs, Chief Executive of Aviva UK Insurance, said in a statement: “John is a great addition to our AIL and Aviva Life UK Boards. He offers a wealth of industry experience, and shares Aviva’s passion for creating great customer outcomes. I look forward to working with him in his capacity as an Independent non-executive director.”

Before leaving LV in May 2016 he was paid a £10.1m share of a total £39.4m long-term incentive award, having had his own company ABC Insurance Services bought out by LV= in 2006.

All the founders at ABC moved into senior roles in LV=’s general insurance business following the acquisition.

Prior to O’Roarke leaving LV=, a spokesperson for the insurer said that the acquisition of ABC had transformed the performance of its general insurance business “from a small, shrinking and loss-making business into a large and profitable concern with market leading customer satisfaction”.
