The FA could be left nursing substantial losses after cancelling the England v Holland friendly without contingency cover.

The FA announced today it was cancelling the game following the London riots.

The FA said in a statement: “It is with regret that tomorrow's (Wednesday 10 August) international fixture with Holland at Wembley has been called off."

West Ham and Crystal Palace postponed their Carling Cup games. Neither have event insurance as that is usually reserved for the big games, Insurance Times understands.

Last month the Kings of Leon cancelled their US tour which left Lloyd’s insurer Cathedral as the lead underwriter on a £15m exposure policy.
