The driving public wants the government to punish uninsured drivers, according to a study from Bluesure.
Bluesure concluded that drivers have had enough of uninsured drivers - who add around £30 extra to every driver's annual insurance premium.
The research found that 85% of UK drivers are dissatisfied with the current deterrents to uninsured drivers.
Among several proposals to tackle the issue, Bluesure recommended that fines could be directed into the Motor Insurance Bureau's National Guarantee Fund, which compensates victims of uninsured drivers.
And 30% of drivers think fines should be increased to at least £1,000.
Bluesure chief executive Tony Martin said: "Our research shows that the British motoring public has had enough of uninsured drivers, as 92% said they wanted additional measures to reduce the number of uninsured drivers and to reduce the costs incurred by them.
"Directing uninsurance fines back to the Motor Insurance Bureau makes perfect sense as it is one way to reduce the burden on all motorists. We were dismayed to confirm that Britain has one of the worst rates of uninsured drivers in the World."
