Foot-and-mouth precautions have caused an influx of motorcycle claims, says Carole Nash Insurance Consultants.

The Claims Service, the firm's uninsured loss recovery division, is investigating several claims by motorcyclists who have had accidents caused by the disinfectant-doused straw laid down on country roads.

Manager Dave Bowcock said the Claims Service was now trying to establish liability. “These are difficult cases because there are a number of factors to be taken into account, including who placed the disinfectant bails and under what authority, whether they presented a clear obstruction, whether warning signs were posted and whether there was any element of rider error at play,” he said.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
