David Gittings has succeeded Derek Thornton as chairman of the CII's London Market Faculty.

Gittings holds a number of positions in the industry — chairman of the risk management committee at Wellington as well as the chairman of the audit committee of the Financial Services Skills Council, chairman of the Lloyd's Market Association Professional Standards Committee and vice president of the Insurance Institute of London.

Alexander Scott, CII director general, said: “David Gittings will take the faculty on to its next level of development. His knowledge and experience of our sector is second to none and will be of immense benefit to members and to the CII to help us ensure that we remain at the forefront of relevance for this vital part of the UK insurance market.”

Gittings commented: “This is an exciting time for the Faculty and the London market. I would like to thank Derek Thornton for establishing a great platform to take things forward. Over the coming months the Faculty will be focusing on the need to attract the brightest and the best recruits, professional development and raising standards.”
