TV opera singer to challenge meerkat

GoCompare has waved goodbye to its current TV adverts in a bid to challenge the phenomenal success of comparethemeerkat.

The aggregator is launching a new campaign called Gio Compario - a larger than life opera singer who pops up in everyday situations and, through the medium of song, tells people that they could save on their insurance premiums by visiting Gocompare.com.

The move will be seen as Gocompare's attempt to emulate the success of comparethemarket's meerkat, which has captured the public imagination.

Gio’s song is the aptly named tune, “Gocompare!” and is based on the George M Cohan classic, ‘Over there’, which has been reworked especially for the campaign. It was recorded by Welsh opera singer Wynne Evans, who also plays the part of Gio in the TV campaign.

A GoCompare spokeswoman said the previous adverts helped increase volumes by more than 500 per cent during its lifetime.

The new ad will debut across all commercial TV channels from 8pm tonight and can be viewed at www.whoisgio.com from 8pm tonight.

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
