The actuaries would never believe it – one Lincolnshire penioner has defied all the odds to pull off a staggering seven holes in one at the same hole.

Maurice Pugh, 75, hit his first on 12th tee of the golf course in 1970. He scored another in 1973, 1974, 1975, 1997, 1998 and again last week.

Stoke Rochford golf club near Grantham runs its own hole in one insurance policy, with members paying £2.50 on top of their annual subscription. It pays out £25 towards the cost of a round.

“Whenever you get a hole in one, it is tradition to buy a round of drinks, so I have become quite popular in the clubhouse,” Pugh said.

“I think there's no chance of me getting another one,” he said. “I don't consider myself to be a particularly good golfer, just an average club player who was fantastically fortunate.”

Statistically speaking, the odds of getting a hole in one are one in 42,952.
