A guide to this week's movements in the insurance industry

Broker

Cooper Gay
Cooper Gay has appointed Steve Barton as deputy managing director within its marine and aviation division.

Barton was previously managing director of Willis' marine division, responsible for the marine group's global performance.

Thompson Rudd
West Midlands-based broker and Vega member Thompson Rudd has appointed Anthony Needham and Paul Dainty as account executives.

Needham previously worked at Marsh UK, where he was an associate director responsible for public sector business.

Dainty joins from THB where, as broking manager, he was responsible for all existing commercial business placement within the firm's Leamington Spa office.

Heath Lambert
Heath Lambert National has appointed Alan Carnegie as managing director of its operations in Scotland.

Carnegie joins from Marsh, where he was head of office in Aberdeen.

Cox
Cox has appointed David Birch as sales director, with the aim of strengthening the company's affinity offering.

Birch joins from RBS Insurance, where he was head of corporate partnerships for its insurance affinity division.

Insurer

Amlin
Amlin's underwriting team for its new Bermuda operation will be led by underwriting director John Andrews.

Andrews currently underwrites Amlin's proportional treaty account and is syndicate underwriter for Amlin Credit.

Ben Savill will also join the team as an underwriter. He is currently property treaty underwriter responsible for US and Canadian accounts.

Both will be supported by assistant underwriters Lisa O'Toole and Sophie Chapman.

Co-operative
Co-operative has appointed Bryan Portman as its new chief financial officer.

Portman will assume his new role at the end of 2005, joining from the firm's financial services arm, Co-operative Financial Services, where most recently he was chief operating officer for its life and savings business, finance and investment activities.

Primary Broker Services
Primary Broker Services has appointed Ian McFadyean as business development manager, based at its Bristol office.

McFadyean, who will be responsible for the company's South West and Wales region, was previously an account manager at AXA.

Healthsure
Chris Brook Parsons has been promoted to regional sales manager at Healthsure.

Parsons's previous role at the firm was senior business consultant.

EurotaxGlass's
Vehicle business product supplier EurotaxGlass's has appointed Iain Burkinshaw as its new business development manager.

Burkinshaw was previously a consultant providing estimating audit and review services. Prior to that he was a business development manager at Audatex.

Misys Financial Systems
Hameed Alkhersan has joined Misys Financial Systems as an account manager supporting brokers in North London and East Anglia.

Alkhersan was previously business development manager for Computacenter.

Profile

Steve Loose
Highway has appointed Steve Loose as operations director of its retail division.

Loose will assume responsibility for three of Highway's subsidiaries: Direct Motorline, Elite Underwriting and A Quote Insurance Services.

Key responsibilities will include leading and providing a clear focus for all staff within the three businesses and developing and delivering Highway Retail's strategy.

Loose previously worked for Budget Insurance for ten years in a variety of senior operational roles. He recently returned from South Africa, where he set up and ran the company's offshore contact centre business.

He said: "Highway's retail operation represents a superb platform upon which to build and realise the potential of the organisation."

Loose has two children, and in his spare time he enjoys off-road driving, cooking and playing squash.
