A guide to this week's movements in the insurance industry

Broker

James Hallam
James Hallam has appointed Mark Thomsen, Tracy Hore and Kelly Douglass to its growing professional risks team.

Thomsen, who has 16 years' broking experience, has been appointed as director of professional risks. He will head up the development of both wholesale and retail business.

Thomsen, Hore and Douglass all join James Hallam from Edgar Hamilton (previously Sterling Hamilton Wright). They worked closely in the professional risks division for three years, where Thomsen was manager and Hore and Douglass were account executives.

Sagar
Gary Quaine has been appointed commercial broker manager at Sagar's Accrington office.

Quaine joins Sagar from Aon in Leeds.

Select & Protect
Select & Protect has appointed Steve Richards as national account manager. He will play an integral part in the expansion of the company's proposition to principal and independent financial adviser networks.

Richards joins from Scottish Life, where he was area sales manager for six years.

Insurer

Liberty
Liberty Syndicates has appointed James Slaughter as deputy underwriter - special reinsurance projects.

Slaughter joins Liberty's Syndicate 4472 from Berkshire Hathaway Lloyd's Syndicate 1861, where he has spent the past six years.

AXA
AXA has appointed Carol Anne Stewart as senior technical surveyor trainer.

Stewart joins from NIG, where she worked as a surveyor covering Scotland.

In her new role she will be AXA's principal point for risk control training.

Zenith
Zenith Insurance Management has appointed Nick Rayward as project manager.

Rayward will work with sister company Link Insurance to build the European insurance business of parent company Guardian Holdings.

Rayward has previously worked for both Churchill and Xchanging.

Chaucer
Chaucer Syndicates has promoted David Bendle to operations director.

Bendle joined Chaucer in 2002 as operations manager for Chaucer Syndicate 1084. Prior to this he worked in Lloyd's for 19 years, initially as a broker and then as a syndicate manager for eight years with Limit.

Aegis
William Dalton, Tom Mahoney and Roger Morgan have joined the board of Aegis Managing Agency, the managing agent for Aegis Energy Syndicate 1225.

Dalton is a director at HSBC Finance Corporation USA and formerly chief executive of HSBC Bank.

Mahoney is a previous CEO and managing director of Platinum Re UK as well as a previous managing director of St Paul Re.

Morgan is chairman of Otherquest, as well as non-executive chairman of both Omega Underwriting Agents and HWS Holdings.

Sectornet
Sectornet has appointed Paul Buckle as senior manager for account development.

Buckle first joined Sectornet in 2002, most recently having overall responsibility for the strategic accounts team.

Prior to this Buckle worked as a broker for 12 years.

FSSC
Chris Hall has replaced Michelle Sayers at the Financial Services Skills Council as national manager for Wales.

Hall previously worked at Principality Building Society as investment manager.

The Cotswold Group
Andrew Wilson has joined The Cotswold Group's Manchester office as asenior claims investigator.

Wilson, who joins from Alexandra Claims, has 15 years' claims investigation experience.

Aquilo
Aquilo has appointed John Ascroft as managing director of Aquilo Motor Services in Cheshire.

Ascroft joins from RAC, where he was director of fleet services.

MVRA
The Motor Vehicle Repair Association has appointed Adrian Bond as managing director.

Bond has 18 years' automotive industry experience at firms including Lumley Auto, where he was divisional managing director.

Mike Monaghan, MVRA chief executive and founder, will now concentrate on reinstating the MVRA brand across the industry.

Lynn Harri
Groupama has appointed Lynn Harris as proposition development manager.

Harris has substantial broking and technical insurance experience, having previously worked at Marsh as an associate director within its affinity schemes division. She also has broker service experience from her time with Norwich Union as a business development consultant. She joins Groupama from Lumley, where she was value creation manager.

Working in a role between Groupama and its intermediaries, Harris will initially help to finalise a series of initiatives to support Groupama's ongoing move into full cycle EDI for its home insurance products.

Harris said: "Groupama's positive culture is refreshing. I'm delighted to be joining the business at such an exciting time."

Harris enjoys going to the gym and the theatre.

She also loves travelling and, since completing her ACII last year, is learning to speak Spanish.
