Heath Lambert has appointed Peter Mitchell as regional director, responsible for business development at Heath Lambert Manchester.

Mitchell has more than 20 years' experience in the insurance market. He spent nine years at Aon, where for the past two years he was national business development manager for a specialist division. Mitchell has also spent time at Sedgwick in both business development and client servicing roles.

Heath Lambert has also appointed Barry Duffin as operations director, heading up the group's select business unit (SBU).

Duffin joins Heath Lambert following

12 years with A-Plan Insurance, where he was most recently project manager with responsibility for new business development and client relationship management.

BWP

BWP has appointed Peter Newson as deputy managing director.

Newson joined BWP in 2002 as an associate director with responsibility for new business development. He has 15 years of professional indemnity (PI) broking experience, including positions with Marsh, Aon, Jardines and Lambert Fenchurch (now Heath Lambert).

An existing board director, he will be responsible for the development and profitability of all of BWP's lines of business, growth and FSA registration. He will also maintain direct responsibility for the company's PI business.

FMW

Simon Hanley, James Taylor and Glenn Wilson have all joined Chelmsford-based broker FMW as trainee account executives.

Hanley was previously at Capita Insurance Services, Taylor at Beckett Group and Wilson has been working as a financial adviser with MLP.

SBJ

SBJ Group has appointed Tom Payne as director of its broker, SBJ Ltd.

Payne has 20 years' industry experience and he joined SBJ in 2001.

IGi Group

IGi Group has appointed Samantha Bourne to the newly-created role of marketing manager.

Bourne will work across the group portfolio to focus on strengthening brand awareness and customer acquisition. New to the insurance industry, she has five years of direct sales experience and will work alongside marketing director Stuart Craig.

Crispin Speers & Partners

Crispin Speers & Partners has appointed Duncan Bassett to the board of directors.

Bassett joined Crispin Speers in 2001, taking responsible for travel products. With his appointment to the board, he will be jointly responsible with Bob Clayton for administration and servicing of clients.

Rowlands & Hames

Fylde Coast-based Rowlands & Hames has appointed John Isles as director.

Isles joins Rowlands & Hames with responsibility for marketing, corporate relationships and corporate client development.

He has 18 years' experience in underwriting, claims and broking. He was initially with General Accident/CGU, where he was commercial development manager and London service centre manager. Most recently he was at Preston-based broker Wallwork Jensen, where he was appointed broking director in 2000.

The Clear Group

The Clear Group has appointed Peter Morse to its management team.

Account director Morse has more than 20 years' experience as an insurance broker and previously worked for Stuart Alexander as director responsible for the property department.

Hugh J Boswell

Hugh J Boswell has appointed Nick Chambers to its board.

In his new role as director, Chambers will be responsible for the growth, profitability and stability of the company. He will retain and manage his existing client portfolio that he held as an account executive. He has nine years' experience in the insurance industry.

Allianz Cornhill

Gareth McChesney has been appointed business services manager for Allianz Cornhill personal.

In his new role McChesney will be responsible for personal lines head office functions including auditing, compliance, training and underwriting, reporting to the personal lines director.

He has been with Allianz Cornhill since 1986, when he joined the Belfast branch in the commercial lines division. He switched to personal lines in 1998 when he became a product developer at the Guildford head office.

Towergate Underwriting

Towergate Underwriting has appointed Simon Lewer as product development manager. Lewer was previously at Churchill Insurance and Hiscox.

Mike Newman has joined Towergate as IT director. Newman was previously head of IT at Aon affinities and schemes.

Benfield

Reinsurance intermediary Benfield has appointed Fred Madsen as executive vice president.

Prior to his appointment, Madsen was president of XL Re America, where he oversaw broker and direct sales, reinsurance underwriting and associated operations.

He was also executive vice president and chief casualty underwriter at NAC Re, and casualty underwriter for General RE and Aetna Life and Casualty.

Davies Arnold Cooper

Davies Arnold Cooper (DAC) has appointed Michael Edwards to its insurance litigation team.

Edwards, previously a partner at Lawrence Graham and former head of litigation, has joined DAC as an associate partner, working on property and construction insurance matters.

He specialises in insurance contract disputes and fraudulent claims.

Gaston Whybrew

Specialist insurance law firm Gaston Whybrew, based in Colchester, has appointed professional indemnity specialist Tim Francis as partner.

Francis qualified with Merricks and then spent three years with Williams Davies Meltzer in the City. He joins Gaston Whybrew from Prettys in Ipswich.

InsurE-com

Laura Waples has been promoted to marketing manager at InsurE-com.

Waples previously worked for IBM UK global e-business services before joining InsurE-com in 2001. She will be taking over from current marketing manager Paul Scanlon, who is joining Towergate Underwriting in a newly-created e-commerce marketing manager role.

Morning Data

Morning Data has appointed Phil Collins to its team of developers.

Collins will be working on the development of Morning Data's international reinsurance and direct software solution NOVUS. He will also be responsible for the development of Morning Data's own website.

Arthur Marsh & Son

Broker John Newton Insurance Services is joining Arthur Marsh & Son of Middlesex. John Newton, his son Michael and their staff are joining Arthur Marsh on 1 May.

John Newton has worked in the industry for 46 years. He started in the City working for Pearl Assurance in 1958 as an office boy, progressing to an assistant underwriter. He has also worked for National Employers Mutual, the Bishopsgate Insurance Company and EC Kavanagh. He set up his own Middlesex-based brokerage in 1981.

Also joining Arthur Marsh from John Newton Insurance Services are commercial and personal lines specialist Michael Newton and personal lines specialists Sandra Staniland and Sheila Stewart.

IPRS

Rehabilitation and injury management service provider IPRS has appointed David Kemp as HR manager.

Prior to joining IPRS, Kemp was working as a freelance HR consultant. He had previously worked in the HR department of BT.

Dual Corporate Risks

Dual Corporate Risks has appointed Darryl Brophy as regional manager with responsibility for developing and managing the company's broker relationships outside of London.

Brophy has 20 years' liability experience. He joins the business from AIG, where he spent nine years, most recently as South East regional manager for financial lines in its offices in Watford, Croydon and Reading. Prior to that, Brophy was at Zurich Municipal.
