Marsh

Marsh UK has appointed James Elder to the new position of chief risk officer.

Elder joins from Credit Suisse where he was a director in bank operational risk oversight.

He will report to John Nicholson, chief operating officer of Marsh UK.

Marsh has also appointed Jill Husbands as Bermuda head of office for its captive management operations, Heather Oakley as deputy head of office and Clayton Price as director of client relations.

Aon

Aon has appointed Simon Baker, branch director and Mark Crawford, broking director of its Midlands team.

Baker has been promoted to head up a team of 15 trade credit insurance experts, who help Midlands companies protect themselves from bad debt as a result of insolvency.

A credit expert in the food and drink sector, he joined Aon in 1986 and was previously a regional sales director.

Crawford is responsible for building insurer relation-ships in Birmingham and maintaining broking standards to arrange the widest coverage and competitive premiums for Midlands companies.

He has over 22 years’ experience in the servicing of mid to large sized clients.

Miller

Alison Stock has joined Miller Insurance Services in the role of marketing director, responsible for marketing and business development.

Stock has over 10 years’ experience in professional services marketing and business development.

She joins from Towers Perrin Tillinghast, where she was head of sales support and marketing for Europe.

Insurer

Gallagher Re

Gallagher Re has appointed Graham Wood as team leader of its Bermuda-based function.

He has over 20 years’ experience as a reinsurance/retrocession intermediary and underwriter.

Wood relocated to Bermuda from Gallagher Re’s UK team in May 2007.

Novae

Novae Insurance has appointed Jonathan Morgan as unit head of its regional financial lines division in the UK and Ireland.

Morgan started his career at Lexington, where he specialised in professional liabilities underwriting.

He joins Novae from AIG, where he worked for three and a half years as its South East financial lines underwriter.

AXA

AXA UK has announced that Ian Robinson will replace Ian Richardson, who retires as group business risk director on 31 December.

Robinson joins from HSBC Insurance where he is chief operating officer

Ace

Ace European Group has promoted Wayne Harrington to UK & Ireland manager, environmental risk and appointed Iain Harrison as environmental risk underwriter.

Harrington will be responsible for providing strategic underwriting direction for the environ-mental risk business across the UK and Ireland, including product innovation and distribution development.

He joined Ace in October 2004 as vice president in the Financial Solutions Intern-ational unit.

Harrison joins the company from Mott MacDonald’s environmental consultancy team.

He will specialise primarily in contaminated land, industrial permitting and environmental impact assessment.

Markel

Markel International has appointed Peter Phillips as managing director of its new Singapore office.

Phillips will be responsible for establishing and growing the Singapore business in Markel’s first move into the Asian market.

He joins Markel from Marsh Indonesia where he held the position of president director.

Legal

Weightmans

Weightmans has appointed Sharon Kamil to its large loss and technical claims team as a partner.

She will continue her work on high value and catastrophic injury cases.

Kamil joins Weightmans as a partner after nearly 13 years with Halliwells.

She has particular expertise in claims involving serious multiple orthopaedic trauma and amputations, as well as spinal and brain injury claims.

She will be based at the firm’s Manchester office.

Other

Davies Group

Davies Group has appointed Gary Liptrot as a director.

Liptrot will focus on strategic development and, in particular, client relation-ships and new business opportunities across its extensive UK network.

He was previously business development director with Cunningham Lindsey UK.

Ai Claims Solutions

Ai Claims Solutions has appointed Andy Crinson to the position of head of vehicle supply.

Crinson joins from Guy Salmon Prestige Rental.

Profile: Peter Lole

Bryn Jones has joined Peter Lole & Co. at its head office in Gerrards Cross.
Jones’ role as a member of the management team will be to develop new business while looking after existing clients and to maintain the high profile of the company in the freight industry.
Peter Lole, managing director, says: “Bryn is well known in the marine market and is equally at home in dealing with direct clients or assisting brokers in placing and handling business. We are delighted to be able to bring him on board.”
