Groupama chairman and chief executive Tony Lancaster has two new joint managing directors to help him implement strategic changes at the UK's 10th largest general insurer.

Tim Ablett becomes managing director responsible for the group's £300m personal insurances business, including private motor and home accounts.

Ablett will also oversee the group's growing affinity partnerships and accident and health business, as well as Groupama's direct arm based at Portsmouth.

He was formerly director of Royal & SunAlliance's health division.

Stephen Hartigan assumes the role of managing director of Groupama's £250m turnover commercial operations which include its marine and treaty reinsurance business. He joined Groupama's sister company GAN as a director in 1994 and has more than 27 years experience in insurance.

Tony Lancaster said: "Groupama is facing a period of fundamental change. It is vital the organisation is prepared and these important executive appointments will ensure that the business is focused fully on the task."
