Groupama Healthcare has created Provider Relations Manager role

Barbara Spurr has joined Groupama Healthcare in the newly created role of provider relations manager. She joins from BUPA Hospitals and brings over 35 years experience in healthcare and insurance. Barbara will provide the main point of contact between Groupama Healthcare, the NHS and the various private hospitals that Groupama works with.

As provider relations manager, Barbara will have responsibility for negotiating contracts with hospitals covering everything from bed and accommodation prices to drug charges, dressings and theatre costs. She will also be investigating opportunities to streamline processes to create a smoother flow of communication between Groupama Healthcare’s claims team and the hospitals.

Alistair Sclare, head of healthcare underwriting, says, “Groupama Healthcare is now a significant player in the health insurance market with the reputation and size required to have greater influence in our negotiations with hospitals. Not only will Barbara have a key role in helping us to control costs, she will also help us to ensure a solid link between our Claims staff and our key provider contacts.”

Barbara joins Groupama from the role of contracts manager for BUPA Hospitals following a career spanning 35 years in a variety of roles across BUPA Hospitals and BUPA Insurances. She brings a deep understanding of working closely with providers, insurers and hospitals.

Barbara says of her new role, “I am looking forward to building on the long-standing relationships that I already have with hospital groups and providers around the UK. I will be working closely with the Groupama Healthcare claims team to create good, solid associations between the team and our key contacts.”

Alistair Sclare added: “It’s great news that we now have Barbara on board and we will immediately start exploiting her extensive knowledge and expertise to enhance our relationships with hospitals and providers.”
