Groupama Commercial Services has broken with market tradition and has launched its Groupama trade insurance (GTI) package to its supporting commercial brokers.

It is the first of the three UK general insurers that offer credit insurance to offer the facility beyond credit specialists.

Commercial insurances managing director Stephen Hartigan said credit insurance had traditionally only been available through specialist credit insurers and brokers.

“However, with the support, training and security offered by Groupama, we see this as a tremendous oppotrunity for the commercial broking community as a whole,” he said.

“They'll be able to maximise their contact with customers and strengthen their sales position of the business community.

“Our aim is to make GTI as simple as possible to sell.”

He said there was enormous room for growth in the credit insurance market.

“We're planning to tap into that potential,” Hartigan said.

Imelda Cooney has been appointed credits and bonds assistant underwriter to raise the profile of the GTI package. She will be at a series of broker roadshows across the UK.

Cooney, who worked with one of the UK's biggest specialist credit brokers for seven years, will also develop Groupama's credit accounts and other financial risk classes and become involved in technical policy and claims issues.
