There we were thinking that the insurance industry was averse to IT and all things electronic, when actually they get on rather splendidly.

Backchat made this amazing revelation while discussing the ins and outs of IT systems with a new Lloyd's insurer.

While chatting about the wonders of quoting risks electronically, dealing with claims handling, and having access to a "data warehouse" of all things, the underwriter let slip that the team was so fond of the system that it had even given it a name – Simon.

So called after Simple Simon, because it's easy to use, and Simon Says, as its diary function reminds you of everything you need to do, Simon has become an integral part of the syndicate's business.

Who said romance was dead?
