Driver’s car towed despite her having insurance documents

Driver Bharti Patel of Northolt had her car towed by Police in west London, because Haven had failed to update her records on the Motor Insurance Database, the Ealing Gazette reports.

She was stopped in a spot check in Greenford Road about 2pm on Monday and told she had no insurance. She got a friend to bring her insurance documents but the Police still towed her car away.

She said: "The insurance company apologised for their mistake but why didn't the police just wait? Then it would've all been sorted out."

Fee, fine and points

Patel collected her car the following day but had to pay a £175 fee to release it. She has also been given six points on her licence and a £60 fine.

She added: "The officers at the car pound told me not to pay the fine and I can get the £175 back if my complaint is upheld, but I'm getting all this hassle and stress for nothing while I wait to find out what's going to happen."

Haven insurance were unable to comment.
