Halifax Bank of Scotland (HBOS) General Insurance is targeting the medico-legal reporting industry with the aim of becoming the largest player in the market.

HBOS head of medico-legal services John Goodchild said it was looking to lead the market and had started acquiring firms with that aim.

Medico legal companies provide medical reports for injured parties in the event of a personal injury claim.

HBOS acquired Liverpool-based medical reporting firm Micrah Services at the end of September for an undisclosed sum. It already owns medical reporting firm Mentor, and has a stake in Expedia Services.

"Over the next six months we will look to bring Mentor and Micrah together," said Goodchild.

Goodchild predicted further consolidation in the medico-legal reporting sector.
