It seems the driver of the ill-fated tour bus that caught fire in the French Alps over the weekend is not the only one who deserves praise.

It has since emerged that the heroic, or some might say foolhardy, actions of a tour rep saved insurers thousands of pounds.

According to Ken Palmer of Fogg Travel Insurance, the broker for the tour's travel insurance, the rep dashed back to the blazing bus once all had escaped and single-handedly saved the passengers' luggage.

The travel insurers are obviously thrilled at the rep's efforts - indeed he has been sent a reward. But the bus insurers will no doubt be grumbling. After all, why didn't this heroic superman character attempt to put the fire out as well?

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.

Hosted by comedian and actor Tom Allen, 34 Gold, 23 Silver and 22 Bronze awards were handed out across an amazing 34 categories recognising brilliance and innovation right across the breadth of UK general insurance.
Many congratulations to all the worthy winners and as always, huge thanks to our sponsors for their support and our judges for their expertise.
