The real cost of a commercial vehicle incident could be as much as ten times the standard industry estimate, according to Delta Commercial Vehicle Services (DCVS).
The company identified 14 hidden costs, which it calculates would on average add £10,000 to the total bill following an incident.
These include finding a replacement vehicle and driver and third party costs such as credit hire and repairs.
Chief operating officer Ian McKenzie said: "The true cost comes from a failure to recognise and control the factors that influence vehicle off-road time, not simply the repair bill. Tackle these effectively and the savings can be much greater on a bill that properly reflects the overall costs to the business."
