Latest acquisition for Somerset-headquartered broker

Higos Insurance Services has acquired Plymstock Insurance Centre, a business near Plymouth.

Under Higos it will trade as Plymstock Insurance Services.

Plymstock is the 16th office to be opened by Higos in the South West and the second purchase in Devon, following the acquisition of Ravensdale Insurance Services in Braunton in 2009.

Ian Gosden, founder and managing director of Higos, said “Higos is committed to delivering a first class service and expert insurance advice on the local high street.

“We continue to expand our South West branch network and Plymstock Insurance Services is a successful local broker with a loyal customer base. We look forward to serving both existing and new clients.”

The group confirmed that all existing staff in Plymstock will remain with the company.

This includes the previous owner Mike Anderson who will head up a new marine department being established by the group.

A new manager for the Plymstock branch, Neil Harmson, joined Higos in April 2011.

Gosden added: “The acquisition of the thriving brokerage in Plymstock is the start of our expansion plans in 2011 and we look forward to bringing further names under the Higos umbrella later in the year.”
