HIH, the defunct Australian insurance giant, has been granted court approval to sue a Lloyd's syndicate for unpaid reinsurance, according to reports.
The Sydney Supreme Court gave its approval early last week, ignoring the defence's argument that the case should be subject to international arbitration.
The reinsurance owed by the syndicate is reported to be in the region of $50m.
