Former broker joins after 12 years at Aon Benfield

St George's Bermuda

Hiscox Bermuda has announced the appointment of Ross Nottingham as senior vice-president underwriting, of its reinsurance business.

Reporting to underwriting director Damien Smith, Nottingham joins Hiscox after 12 years as a broker, most recently for Aon Benfield where he worked in the non-marine retro team from 2005 in London and Bermuda.

He will be responsible for managing broker relations at Hiscox Bermuda, a position currently held by Ben Love who is returning to London to underwrite for Hiscox’s London Market division, where he will also have oversight for client and broker relations across all of Hiscox’s reinsurance operations.

Smith said: “Ensuring we have the right broker relationships in place forms a key part of our growth development here in Bermuda as we continue to look for high quality risks in property catastrophe reinsurance, as well as for third party capital opportunities. As a former broker, Ross’s valuable market insight will help us meet this objective as well as helping us to maintain close working relationships with our London counterparts as we look to maximise Hiscox’s reinsurance footprint.”

Nottingham said: “In today’s catastrophe reinsurance space, the roles of brokers and underwriters are increasingly similar, using the same tools to price the business and relationships to access it.”

The 2025 Insurance Times Awards took place on the evening of Wednesday 3rd December in the iconic Great Room of London’s Grosvenor House.
