Backchat loves a bit of good industry news. And it seems Colchester is a hunting ground for, as one insurer put it, "dirt cheap staff".

But the new improved AXA Insurance has gone out of its way to keep a promise to staff in Colchester.

The town's Evening Gazette ran an article on how 80% of AXA staff had missed the swing of the axe. In the words of the local hack: "The announcement of the closure, and subsequent shifting of all operations to Ipswich, was swiftly followed by promises to offer all staff the opportunity to relocate."

AXA marketing director Iain Watt alerted Backchat to the article and added that "respect for our word is one of AXA's five core values".
