CGNU has produced a free guide called Domestic Bliss to help both domestic employers and employees find the right level of insurance protection.

It gives information on insurance and security issues. It also features a service promise that allows the parties to set out the exact nature of the work and pay conditions.

According to a new research commissioned by the insurer – the 21st-Century Housekeeping report – Britons spend over £9bn a year on domestic help, with 2.7 million households now regularly using it.

Although three in five employees have the keys to their employers' home, only one in three families gets references for, or does checks on employees.
