Law firm Hugh James is launching a claims handling solution, Streamline 21, that it says can cut the claims process from eight or nine months to two months.

The solution has been developed in an effort to reduce the amount spent by insurers on volume claims handling.

Streamline 21 will handle pre-litigation claims as well as providing fast track and multi-track litigation services. The claims handling team consists of 27 staff, including claims solicitors, IT professionals, quality assurance and human resources managers.

Hugh James partner Philip Dicken, who will head Streamline 21, said the new initiative would dramatically reduce the average life cycle of both litigated and pre-litigated claims.

"It stands to reason that the longer a claim remains in existence, the more expensive the associated legal costs will be," Dicken said.

"Our culture is to make an early decision on liability and quantum with the preparation of a detailed case plan and negotiation strategy at the outset of the claim."

Dicken said the firm had undertaken an analysis of the claims management process in order to maximise the efficiency of Streamline 21.

"During the design stage we set about breaking down all aspects of the claims process into work flow diagrams.

"This enabled us to spot potential bottlenecks and streamline the process," he said.

"Analysing the litigation process in this way also enabled us to concentrate expertise at the correct stage of the claim."
