Tropical storm Humberto grew into a hurricane over the Gulf of Mexico today

Tropical storm Humberto grew into a hurricane over the Gulf of Mexico today just before its expected landfall in Texas, the US National Hurricane Center said.

The center said in its latest bulletin, that Humberto was packing winds as strong as 130 km per hour as it swirled toward southeastern Texas.

Earlier in the week, EQECAT warned that a strong hurricane, such as Camille, a category 5 storm, with a track through the heart of Gulf of Mexico US offshore energy platforms, could generate energy producer damage and loss of more than $65bn.
