He will retire from the board next month after five years in the position.

The group chief executive David Howden said: “John has chaired the board during a critical period of growth and development for Hyperion.

“His counsel, through the past five important and formative years, has been invaluable. On behalf of the board I would like to extend our sincere thanks for the guidance and direction he has given.”

Non-executive director Michael Forsyth will chair the board until a new chairman is appointed.

John van Kuffeler said: “I am extremely proud of the company that Hyperion has become, and have very much enjoyed being a part of the team that has built it into the group it is today.

“I have no doubt that its success will continue, and I wish all of the people who work for the group the very best for the future.”
