The multi-million pound lawsuits brought against Watson Wyatt by the administrators of Cotesworth and Independent have been dismissed.

In a statement today Watson Wyatt said the claims brought by administrators PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC) and KPMG had “no merit whatsoever".

The claims were for losses caused “by alleged negligent actuarial work carried out in relation to Independent's technical reserves by Watson Wyatt in its role as reporting actuary”, PWC and KPMG said in February.

Today Watson Wyatt said: “This dismissal at this very early stage confirms our view that these proceedings should never have commenced.

“No payments were made by us in connection to the dismissal of these proceedings.”
