Five days of relentless rainfall has resulted in widespread flooding and damage throughout the Indonesian archipelago, loss adjuster Cunningham Lindsey has said.
The Indonesian capital Jakarta has been particularly badly affected, with reports of flooding of up to five metres.
Transport has been reduced to chaos as a result of major roads being under water.
Elsewhere, there are reports of flooding in Bali, Surabaya and throughout Java, Kalimantan and Sumatra.
Cunningham Lindsey said so far few claims had been reported to insurers, but this was thought to be largely due to many businesses, including insurance companies, being closed yesterday.
Claims are anticipated from today onwards.
The firm said it had the resources, including its Singapore office, available to respond immediately to any claims notified,
It added that it had in place a team of expatriate and local adjusters with experience of catastrophe situations.
