Liberty International Underwriters is delighted to have won the Insurance Times Insurer Innovation award for 2006. This award is a reflection of the hard work and dedication our team has made to the development and delivery of this effective client business solution.

In 2005, Liberty made the decision to enter the solicitors' professional indemnity (PI) market, but to do so in an innovative way by building a web-enabled product to provide a seamless service for brokers at the point of purchase.

This new system known as Locus (Liberty On-line Claims and Underwriting System) was developed to support all key users from brokers and underwriters to administrators and claims handlers with tasks and activities now automated, instead of being done manually.

Phil Foley, head of PI, said: "Locus provides greater speed and efficiency for brokers through instant quotations, automatic documentation despatch and analysis of their own accounts. It also ensures contract certainty at the point of purchase, which is essential in today's highly regulated insurance industry environment.

"Planning is now underway to roll out the system to other PI business sectors including accountants and surveyors. We are also looking to move into other business lines such as directors' and officers' and expand the system to our European offices over the next two years."

In addition to the hard work of the Liberty staff in implementing this system, we would also like to acknowledge the part our brokers and suppliers have played in this success.
