Restoration and repair company Servicemaster has chosen household insurer Select & Protect to pilot its new internet system for tracking claims.

The system will allow Southend-based Select & Protect to follow the progress of flood and accidental damage repairs by logging on to Servicemaster's claims website from October.

Michael Parker, claims and underwriting director at Select & Protect, said the system would not only speed up claims processing times but also enable it to spread its workload more evenly.

He said: “We will no longer have to make telephone calls in order to follow the progress of individual claims, or wait to receive progress reports by fax. The system will enable us to move the claims process forward.”

Servicemaster field agents will keep in contact with Select & Protect staff via email.

The system will also enable Select & Protect to expand its claims handling capacity beyond its volume of more than 10,000 claims a year. The company specialises in household insurance for the landlord and personal lines markets, and its policies are underwritten by Lloyd's insurer Hiscox.

Select & Protect has also pioneered an online underwriting system for sales agents to enter their clients' details directly into its system.

Servicemaster spokesman Scott Robinson said it had chosen Select & Protect to test its system because it was representative of its medium-sized clients.

Servicemaster will roll out its claims tracking system nationally from January 2001.
