Isle of Man Assurance has given a 30th anniversary facelift to its Driverplan policy for motorists off the road through disqualification or ill-health.

The effect of the policy is to minimise disruption to motorists' jobs by paying for alternative transport.

Licence-holders increasingly risk a ban if caught by the growing number of roadside enforcement cameras, the insurer said. With more than 400,000 motorists caught speeding last year, a ban is a no longer a remote possibility.

But motorists may also be forced off the road by ill-health or injury.

The Driverplan policy addresses both issues. The protection plan will pay up to £14,400 for the covered motorist's choice of transport, including hire cars or taxis.

The policy has the added benefit of paying for a hired replacement vehicle if the insured's vehicle is kept off the road because of theft, accident or vandalism.

The minimum premium is just over £4 a month and the policy has recently been extended to cover motorcycles.
